Our Wood Restoration service

Restoring wood—whether it’s furniture, flooring, siding, or decking—involves several key steps to bring back its beauty and structural integrity. Here’s our general wood restoration process:

Check for rot, insect damage, cracks, or warping.

Determine the type of wood and previous finishes.

Use a wood cleaner or degreaser to remove dirt, mildew, and staining.

Apply a chemical stripper or sand the surface to remove old paint, stain, or sealant.

Use a scraper and follow up with sanding for a smooth, bare surface.

Sand to remove rough spots, stains, or minor surface damage.

Use coarse to fine grits (e.g., 80 → 120 → 220) depending on the wood’s condition.

Fill cracks or holes with wood filler or epoxy.

Replace severely damaged boards or sections.

Tighten or repair loose boards.

Apply a wood conditioner to ensure even stain absorption.

Use a penetrating stain + sealer for a natural, durable finish.

Apply evenly with a brush, cloth, or pad, and wipe off excess.

Apply 1–2 coats.

Clean regularly and reapply stain/sealer every 1–3 years

Protecting High-Traffic Wood Areas with Penetrating Stains

For high-traffic areas like decks, porches, or wood floors, penetrating stains are an excellent choice because they soak into the wood rather than forming a surface film. This helps prevent peeling, flaking, and visible wear patterns.

Top Benefits of Penetrating Stains in High-Traffic Areas:

Staining and sealing wood offers several key benefits, both functional and aesthetic:

Protection Against Moisture

Sealing wood prevents water penetration, which helps avoid warping, swelling, rot, and mold growth—especially in outdoor or high-humidity environments.

UV Damage Resistance

Stains often contain UV inhibitors that protect wood from sun damage, such as fading, graying, or cracking over time.

Enhanced Appearance

Staining brings out the natural grain and color of the wood, improving its visual appeal. It can also match wood tones to surrounding decor or other structures.

Increased Longevity

Properly stained and sealed wood is more durable and can last much longer than untreated wood, saving on repair or replacement costs.

Pest Deterrence

A sealed surface makes it harder for insects like termites and carpenter ants to penetrate and damage the wood.

Easier Maintenance

Sealed wood is more resistant to dirt, stains, and mildew, making it easier to clean and maintain over time.
